   In general American cities (At least touristisy areas) are generally safe. You may see people ask for money or whatever but violent crimes are generally away from city centers and more towards the what some people call “The Ghetto”. Even stereotypically violent cities like Detroit, Baltimore and St.Louis can be great trips if you do some research.
